Recognizing Baba Mukasa

These pics tell you everything you need to know about Baba Mukasa. Enthusiastic, bright, smart, consistent, committed, critical, brilliant, revolutionary, proud and ahead of his time. (Thanks, Baba I got these great pics from his FB posts!)

While an undergraduate at Brown University in 1980, I joined the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party only weeks after Kwame Ture (formerly Stokely Carmichael) spoke on campus. One of my favorite Party Activities was spraypainting the AAPRP logo and the words “You are African!” on sidewalks and street walls.

Little did I know I would have the honor of teaching the children of a freedom fighter that is well-known for greeting Black folk all across the land with a bright smile, love in his heart and an identity lesson in 2 words: “Hey, African!”

Baba Mukasa also coined the term Black Power during his days as a co-founder of SNCC – Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in 1960.

Love you, Afrikan! ❤️✊🏾❤️✊🏾
