Listening 4 Justice starts its 2nd series today. I appreciate getting clear on the magic of small groups. I find myself so anxious to connect with others doing this work primarily in the U.S context and worldwide. I appreciate what reflection brings – clarity around what is yours to do. Every time I reflect on what I am learning, thinking and feeling, my understanding expands. This commitment I made to write every day in June has been a total game-changer for me.
Consider the power of muscle memory. Those things you just do without thinking about it. For most of us, brushing our teeth in the morning is muscle memory. Fewer of us floss consistently (ask me how I know) and I’m not sure why it’s not as simple to add that practice to the teeth-brushing. I digress.
So after writing for 23 days in a row and getting positive feedback (which wasn’t an expectation at all), I can’t stop. I’m still looking for the right vehicle to share. For now, social media will have to do.
I’ll tell you all about Gathering #1 – Race is all in your head later.
This gathering breaks down this wisdom from Molefi Asante – Race is an illusion. Racism is very real.
I’m also still on a high from being afforded the opportunity to share the L4J experience with my community psychologists family at the SCRA biennial conference this week. I’m so grateful for the community we are building. I can hear Kwame Ture (fka Stokely Carmichael) now. Yes, sister, we must or-gan-ize!!! It certainly looks different from my AAPRP days. That’s All-African People’s Revolutionary Party, Kwame’s organization he was building at the time of his death. I’m learning the work has to be done on so many levels. In diverse groups, in affinity, with self, with family. Next level, uncomfortable levels and levels you can’t even imagine….yet.
Let me close with our L4J affirmation: We are learning. We are unlearning. We are stronger together. We are listening for justice.
